ELECTIONS SHAPE OUR LIVES

I can't believe it's finally here. This election year will be pivotal. For as long as I can remember, politics has shaped my life. From how we vote for a better way of life to how we are as Americans. I grew up in a Democratic state, Hawaii. For the life of me, growing up there, I had no sense of division among locals. We were a state of people coming from different backgrounds and cultures, basically a rich melting pot. No real issues, but in local interactions, we generally would speak negatively at times of different nationalities and develop stereotypes, but never in a mean spirited way. We'd laugh about it, we'd all laugh, and move on to our day to day lives, we coexisted in harmony for the most part.
What brought me directly into the world of politics was when I first volunteered and canvassed for a candidate running for the Mayor of Honolulu. She happened to be the first white female Democrat running to unseat a long time incumbent who has established himself in island politics. He was an older white male Democrat originally from Illinois. It was definitely an uphill battle to ask registered voters to switch to her. I don't remember her using her gender as part of her qualifications, but only her political and work experience was presented. She came across as an intellect who tried to connect with voters. She ran an efficient campaign, distinguishing the status quo to something more uplifting for all. It worked!
Fast forward to 2024, some of the realities of hiring a public servant has certainly changed. We are in the precipice of something amazing, cross fingers, this will be a wonderful new change for all Americans. A new outlook, time to turn the page.
Vote or don't, I ask that you consider your action in this election. I imagine this candidate will bring significant change to our lives, politically, financially, and socially.
