Avoid Salt and Fried Foods = Weight Loss?

Here I am, sitting at my desk typing this blog over Memorial Day weekend, deeply reflecting on my eating habits. Right now, I'm enjoying a bowl of Greek yogurt topped with almonds for my mid-morning snack. Healthy? For the most part, absolutely. But when I look closely at the rest of my daily food intake, things get a bit more complicated.

When it comes to salt, sodium, and fried foods, I find them incredibly hard to pass up. I’ve always been a savory guy. When I think of a truly great meal, it almost always includes those elements. But is it really so bad to indulge periodically? It’s a question I’ve pondered for years. Culturally, so many of the comfort foods I grew up with were fried, salted, and—let's be honest—ridiculously good! But as the years climb, you have to come down to earth and become truly mindful of what you're putting into your body.

I have no idea what I’ll whip up for lunch later, or where I might walk to nearby for a holiday bite. But looking at the bigger picture, my mindset needs to shift toward investing in my long-term health. Choosing the cleaner option can feel a bit boring in the moment, but the long-term return on investment is worth it.

I picture a slimmer version of myself: a less puffy face, a lighter stride, and just generally feeling good in my own skin. We’re heading toward the mid-year mark, and something has got to give. My goal is to simply catch myself in the moment and choose better. Next time I order a sandwich and the cashier asks, "Chips or salad?" I want 'salad' to be my automatic answer. It’s all about making the right choices so I don't walk away feeling weighed down by regret.

It’s time to shift my attitude. It doesn't have to feel like a punishment—just a better way forward. Consider this my mid-year food for thought: eat better, feel better. Just saying...
